Twitter fined $150m for wrongly sharing users’ phone numbers

Twitter has been fined $150m by US authorities after taking users’ private information such as phone numbers and using it to target them with adverts.

The social media platform had told users the information would be used for security purposes, according to a settlement with the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
